Book Discussion- Felicity Learns a lesson.

It was really funny when Felicity was on the roof in her own world ignoring everyone, until her mother came outside and told her to get down. Making apple butter sounds really good, I would love to have been there making it with Lissie. Sounds YUMMY!! I like how Lissie made a face when her mother told her she must learn to be proper, it reminded me of how I do the same thing.

I also would have been happy to learn what Felicity was going to learn dancing, handwriting, fancy sitching, and proper way to share tea. Ms. Manderaly was Lissie's teacher. It was nice to see that Felicity's mother cared so much about they way she looked and was very proud.

Felicity meets Elizabeth who is to ebcome her best freind. It was really funny when Felicity's tooth fell into her tea cup, and how everyone was laughing. I also liked the way Ms. Manderly explained about serving tea.

I thought it was funny the Lissie made fun out of Annabelle witha wig on and how her Lissie laughing about it. And it was good that Lissie made a new freind.

This is my favorite Felicity story and one of my favorite AG stories. I really like how it emphasizes the civil war aspect of the Revolution and how Felicity comes to figure out what SHE believes in. Poor Felicity is being torn in two directions-should she be loyal to her family, but not the king or loyal to her friend and the king but not her family. I like that SHE decides on her own what to think. I felt so bad for Lissie when she thought Elizabeth didn't want to be friends anymore. My favorite scene is the last scene where she turns over her tea cup to refuse the tea and Miss Manderly says "well done!" I think that is indicative of what type of person Felicity will become when she is older. I think she is already becomming a young lady, but I do hope she doesn't ever lose her spunk!

That's my favorite scene also, Robin. It really shows just how brave Felicity really is, even moreso than when she helped Ben and Penny. While those two situations were dangerous, they didn't have the same "forever" implications that Felicity's political viewpoint had.

I also really liked the way that Felicity's father handled the situation. He didn't tell her, "This is what you must do!" but instead gave her a chance to think about it and make her own decision.

I totally agree about the tea refusal - it is a great scene. I especially love how Felicity finds a way to express her political standpoint in a respectful way. One of the more infuriating things about Annabelle is her "othering" of Felicity and the other patriots. Felicity proves herself to be just as "civilized" as Bananabelle through her firm but diplomatic action.

Sweet Dessert, I thought you should know, it was the merchant who had to pay the tax on tea, a cost normally defrayed by shifting it onto the customer, though in the end the merchant alone was responsible for it. If he had sold tea, then, he would have been paying the tax, and since he did not believe in the tax, he could not sell tea without supporting that which he opposed.

This was my favorite story as well. A huge part of history lies in the revolutionary war that followed.

I can't wait to see how AG handles Elizabeth in the movie, as her family were loyalists. A lot of loyalists escaped the colonies to Canada and began a new life there. Canada is still technically connected to England to this day!

Of course AG can't do that or Elizabeth would then become Candadian!!! [img]tongue.gif[/img]
